Happy Wednesday to everyone. I’ve finally remembered to take pictures of everything I ate in one day (it’s tougher than it looks). I even pulled out the camera to snap a photo at dinner in public. Geoff’s friend probably thought I was crazy.

I’ve noticed that since I’ve upped my training, carbs make a much more frequent appearance in my daily meals. I used to avoid them like the plague when I was midway through college, then slowly added  whole grains back in after several visits with a nutritionist. For the past 2 years, I’ve always tried to keep them to minimum, believing that a high protein diet help me lose fat and retain muscle. I guess you could say that I fell for the low carb marketing gimmicks (South Beach or Atkins anyone?).

Carbs

Funny thing is, now that I’m less focused on my diet and more on running and weight training, I’m in much better physical shape then ever. My stomach is flatter, my legs smaller and my face even looks less round. Not to say that eating carbs has done all this, but they’ve given me energy to to work out consistently and build muscle. It’s the anaerobic weight lifting and addition of muscle mass that has contributed to these very much appreciated after effects. So yes, carbs are good. Eat your carbs.

And on to WIAW!


Breakfast was my traditional Pumpkin Protein Oats. With extra almond butter of course.

Snack of jicama to hold me over till it was an appropriate time to eat lunch, cough cough 11:15.

Lunch involved leftovers from a Thai stir-fry with peanut sauce and a TJ’s bar.

We had plans to meet up for dinner with Geoff’s friend and I needed a snack around 4pm to hold me over. This is the rest of a cottage cheese container (probably 1/4 to 1/2 cup) mixed with a tablespoon of cocoa, splash of almond milk and a spoonful of almond butter. Hmm, can you tell I love chocolate?

Dinner was at Jaffa Cafe, a highly rated mediterranean place near downtown. It was neat because you fill out a paper, drop it in the “inbox” and pick up your food when they call your name. You pay after you eat, before you leave. My chicken schwarma plate with extra hummus was pretty good. I even ate most of the refined wheat pita. As in NOT whole grain pita.

So here it is! A little insight in to my eats for a heavy chest day.
